Biodiesel production

Immingham

Greenergy owns and operates a biodiesel plant in the port of Immingham on the East coast of England with a capacity of 200,000 tonnes/228 million litres a year.

Day-to-day operations at our biodiesel production facilities at Immingham are handled by px Biodiesel Ltd, which has been awarded ISO 9001: 2000 and the ROSPA silver Award for Occupational Health and Safety.

The biodiesel plant is located on a brown-field site at Immingham West Terminal which has sea, rail and road access as well as pipeline links to local petroleum oil refineries. Its sea-fed location enables effective logistics and trading with the UK and European vegetable oil and biodiesel markets as well as the wider world feedstock markets.

The plant is capable of using a variety of feedstocks including rapeseed, soy, palm, used cooking oils and tallow. A mix of different feedstocks is used to get the best balance of quality, carbon and environmental impact.

The biodiesel produced at Immingham is sold to customers in the UK and mainland Europe.

US Production   Blending

Greenergy has biodiesel production and biodiesel feedstock sourcing operations in the US.

These arrangements allow us to tap into one of the largest sources of food industry by-products (tallow) available anywhere in the world, and thereby expand the percentage of biodiesel derived from by-products that we use in our feedstock mix.

Following the introduction of EU countervailing duties on biodiesel imports from the US, we are now processing US tallow as a feedstock at our biodiesel plant at Immingham in the UK.

We are also continuing our toll-processing arrangements in the US, now supplying biodiesel to the domestic US market.

As well as producing biodiesel in the UK, we also have substantial biodiesel blending operations at Vopak Vlaardingen in the Port of Rotterdam. We have pioneered biodiesel blending operations at the terminal, blending in specially adapted tanks in order to meet our specific customer requirements. We also ship product out of the Rotterdam terminal to customers across Europe.
