Energy from biomass

We have been a supplier of biomass for power generation since 2005, when we signed our first major contract to supply short rotation willow coppice to SembCorp Utilities (UK) Ltd for its new Wilton 10 wood-burning power station. More.

We are currently expanding our involvement in the sector with the objective of becoming the UK's leading supplier of biomass, just as we are already its leading supplier of biofuel.

The UK drive for renewable energy generation is currently held back by lack of reliable fuel supplies. Existing supply chains are characterised by small companies who cannot always provide the guarantees required by generation companies. We intend to use our experience and resources to provide supply guarantees covering not only the fuel itself, but also compliance with legislation and environmental certification.

We aim to supply biomass for heat and power generation across a wide range of markets:

  • Very large electricity generators;
  • Co-firing biomass with coal;
  • Medium sized purpose-built generators producing combined heat and power; and
  • Small biomass plants supplying heat to local industries, public buildings, district heating schemes and even individual homes.

Biomass fuels may be solid, supplied as chips or pellets, or in liquid form. We intend to supply a broad range, sourced from forests, farms and sawmills and newer sources and are exploring emerging sources and waste derived fuel including recycled wood. We will be investing in and developing sources of supply in all sectors, both in UK and internationally.

If you are an existing or potential generator of renewable heat or power please contact Rob Hall, Business Development Manager at Greenergy on 020 7404 7700 or email.
