We are the UK's leading biofuel supplier, currently with over 50% UK market share. We are also a major producer of biodiesel, with our first biodiesel plant at Immingham up and running and a second, to double capacity to 200,000 tonnes, due to begin production in Q4 2007.
We use biofuel and biofuel feedstocks in various forms:
- Vegetable oils as a feedstock for biodiesel production at Immingham;
- Biodiesel for blending with fossil diesel;
- Bioethanol as part of our petrol blending operations.
Principles
We aim only to supply:
- Biofuels that offer a positive carbon balance when calculated on a whole of life basis and taking into account the effect of land use changes;
- Biofuels produced from feedstocks that meet internationally recognised sustainability standards. Where internationally agreed sustainability standards do not yet exist, we will confirm by verification that our biofuels are made from sustainably produced feedstocks.
Approach
We will:
- Work with our suppliers to ensure that the biofuel or biofuel feedstock we buy meets the above principals;
- Work actively to promote the development and implementation of internationally recognised sustainability standards;
- Establish supply chain management systems that can be independently audited in order that we can measure and report on our performance;
- Prioritise our actions according to the potential environmental impact of the biofuel or biofuel feedstock in question;
